Reagan Interact Club Needs Help!

The Reagan interact Club was inactive last year due to a lack of a Faculty Advisor, so this year is a major reboot.  We have a new Faculty Advisor, and the club will be a whole new club.  In many ways, we will be starting over, so it's all hands on deck, especially at the beginning.  Our Interact Advisor, Henry Alvarez, will be taking lead on the Interact Club, but we may need 2-3 members who are willing to be "on-call" to help market the club to the students and get them started.  The good news is that we have the full support of the Principal in getting it going!

Interact will be doing 2 projects during the school year: One will be School/Community Focused, and the other will be focused on International Understanding.  The students will be doing ALL the heavy lifting, but we need to get them off the ground for them to become successful.  Please contact Henry if you are willing to help out.
Remember to Network with the other members of our club.  They can be a resource to you personally and professionally.

Dear fellow Rotarians,

There has been an outpouring of heartfelt messages since President-elect Sam’s passing last week. Rotarians and members of the public have been sharing memories and recalling how Sam inspired them through his hard work as a Rotarian and as a dedicated civil servant. It is clear that his impact and legacy were felt worldwide.
There will be a service for Sam on Friday, 21 July, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., at St. Vincent’s Cathedral in Bedford, Texas. Friends in the area are encouraged to visit. Funeral services in Uganda are currently being planned.
Memorial contributions in honor of Sam will be directed to the Sam F. Owori Memorial to Polio. This fund has been established to honor his commitment to Rotary’s polio eradication efforts. Sam was a member of both the Africa Regional PolioPlus Committee and the International PolioPlus Committee. You can make online contributions to the fund here.
The 2017-18 nominating committee will select a new president-elect, in addition to the president-nominee, during its scheduled meeting in early August.
Thank you all for your continued support during this difficult time.

Sincerely,
Ian Riseley
Rotary International President, 2017-18

Our Condolences to Jan Livingston on the Death of Her Father

Jan Livingston has been a friend and supporter of this club for many years, and is our past District Governor.  We send our condolences to her and her family on the death of her father, Sidney L. Livingston over the past weekend.  Mr. Livingston was also a past Rotarian.

Services will be held on July 28, 2017 at 10:30am at the Fredricksburg Funeral Home.

President’s Corner

Welcome to a new year!  I would like to again thank each and every one of you who attended the Installation Banquet.  A special thank you to Chief Justice, Fourth Court of Appeals (retired), Catherine Stone for inducting our board members and officers.

Also, thank you to our Assistant District Governor Joel Azrikan for attending our event.   We hope to see a lot of him this year.
Throughout our interactions this year, let’s remember this year’s Rotary Theme: Making a Difference.  We are going to make an effort this year to once again meet the Every Rotarian Every Year foundation goal and to plant a tree for each of us.

This year, keep track of your service hours.  We do a lot for our community and we’d like to recognize our members for their hard work. Let’s make it a great year!

~Yolanda Delgado
SORC President 2017-18

P.S.~ I would also like to thank Dr. Dianna Carmenaty, SAPD retired officer and now professor at Our Lady of the Lake University.

Costal Conservation Association (CCA) Texas
Dr. Mike Sarosdy is a Urologic Oncologist and former Professor and Chair of Urology at the UT Health Science Center.  He founded South Texas Urology and Urologic Oncology in 1998 and has performed more brachytherapy implants for prostate cancer than any single Urologist in the US.  He has published over 200 peer-reviewed articles and serves as a reviewer for several medical journals.

As an avid outdoorsman, he has hunted and fished throughout North, Central, and South America and Africa.  He had been a member of the Coastal Conservation Association for years, but in 2008 became an active volunteer on the San Antonio Chapter Banquet Committee.  He served as Banquet Co-Chair in 2013, then Chair in 2014 and 2015, the first two banquets to gross over $1m in Chapter history.  He has served as President of the SA Chapter the past two years and is on the Board of Directors of CCA Texas.

He has two late-teen daughters, one of whom is an avid fisher and hunter and has just finished her first year studying film making at Ringling College of Art and Design.  Her younger sister will be a senior at TMI and is at RCAD right now for a one-month summer course in consideration of attending college there also.

Let's welcome Mike with a great attendance this week!
